Quidditch was created in the books written by J.K Rowling. The game may have been started by J.K Rowling in the books, but Quidditch became a sport when two boys attending Middlebury College in Vermont named Xander Manshel and Alex Benepe decided to turn fantasy to reality.
Xander Marshal, shown here on the left with the ball in his hand was one of the creators of muggle Quidditch, along with Alex Benepe (shown below). He was just a normal college student who was bored of his everyday routine and decided to create a sport that incorporated his fantasy. ESPN actually did an interview with the duo!
Alex Benepe, from New York Manhattan, was 22 at the time that he and Xander had met and greeted each other. They both seemed to have a love for the Harry Potter series, both the books and movies. Alex was a distance runner in high school and went on to run at Middlebury College, where he felt that college sports was way too time consuming. He didn't have any time to be creative so he decided to stop running for the Middlebury College and instead use his creativity to incorporate sports into his creative ideas. Thus Muggle Quidditch was born!
